Lee is the founder of First Person Arts, a creative writing initiative for young people. Lee was inspired to create First Person Arts by his own personal background. Lee grew up with no books in his house because he couldn't read, but began to teach himself how to read at the age of 9 after learning that he could buy books with pictures inside at the book store for 10 cents each. Today, First Person Arts gives young people with similar backgrounds access to books. Lee is the co-founder of the web site Refinery29, a fashion and style website aimed at young women. Lee is also a regular contributor for "R29" as well as many other publications including "Wired Magazine", "Fast Company", "New York Magazine", and Yahoo News.Evan Spiegel was married to Kimberley Casey until 2013. They had one daughter together named Emmylou Lee Spiegel who was born on March 16, 2013. After they divorced, Casey was awarded full custody of their daughter. In 2016, Evan Spiegel began a relationship with model Miranda Kerr. They became engaged in 2017 and married on May 27th, 2018 in Los Angeles. Evan Spiegel is a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity at the University of Southern California where he graduated with honors.
